Panto project gives women a voice FROM THE READING CHRONICLE Feb 8th 2010

"The cast of Snow White celebrate the culmination of the Voice to the Voiceless series"

An arts project has boosted the confidence of Reading women who felt they had no voice.

Voice to the Voiceless encompassed a series of drama and arts workshops, culminating in a pantomime performance, and was run by poet Sarah De Nordwall and Elaine Chalmers-Brown of the Pilgrim Hearts Trust, which helps marginalised people realise their full potential through creative arts.

Women from the Reading Churches Women’s Centre starred in a production of Snow White at Wesley Methodist Church in Queens Road.

The production featured a 25-strong cast, with Asenath Mbabazi and Yvette Twardzik sharing the lead role, and musical accompaniment from Hammad and Sally Baily of Slough-based Christian band Voice for Jesus.

More than 60 people turned out to enjoy the free performance and buffet lunch.

The workshops aim to help women express themselves by exploring the role of women in society through the ages.

Ms Chalmers-Brown said: “The panto and the entire project was a lot of fun. Using the creative arts we helped everybody have a good time while discovering more about themselves.”
